Learn Haidong Gumdo, a traditional Korean martial art of sword fighting, from Master Brian Gihm.
Gumdo, unlike kendo, focuses on the more practical uses of the sword; it focuses more on techniques used in battles rather then duels. The fluid and dynamic movements and visible power of techniques used captivates the mind in a storm of wonder. Graceful, fluid motion, harnessing power is one way to define Haidong Gumdo. There is much more depth than this however.
Haidong Gumdo is not like a typical martial art in
which one just learns how to fight or kick. In fact, you won't learn how
to kick or how to punch in our classes. It is my opinion that too many
people focus on the first word in 'martial art' or equate the term
martial art with self-defense. Although Haidong Gumdo can be used as a
great self defense techniques, I believe that there is more in a
traditional martial art than simple fighting techniques.
In your training, you will learn the important
traditional values such as loyalty, filial piety, etiquette, integrity,
trust, courage and endurance. You will significantly improve your
physical ability, health and mental power. Most of all, you will meet
wonderful people with whom you can share ideas, values, laughter and
even sorrow in rough times.
